Come for lunch, we’re friendly!

Lunches every Wednesday 12-2

We run friendly lunches for local residents every Wednesday at Holy Trinity Church, South Shore, Blackpool FY4 1BP 12-2.  We offer food, company, and a chance bring any issues of concern.

About 25 residents meet to eat and hear what’s going on in Blackpool.

Each lunch features:

  • “Special Offers”: free (or nearly free) things to do throughout the year
  • Support: for residents who experience difficulties
  • Meeting decision makers: leaders in the council and NHS come to answer residents’ questions
  • Shortcuts to helpful Blackpool people
  • Podcast: we share our progress on our Podcast, The Other Side of Blackpool.
  • Food: from Turkish Coffee to Christmas Pudding, we ring the changes over the year in what we eat and share stories about food and cooking.

“What a great group!  I learn so much every time.”  Beryl

The faces and cases that turned up for lunch

Charlotte came to lunch with her mum – her special needs transport for her son had been withdrawn and her appeal had been denied.  Charlotte was having to walk both boys to different schools every morning because her partner needed the car for work.

Husband and wife Phil and Belle came to share their van story

Belle is from California and lived in Devon before she came to Blackpool.  When her custom-made wheelchair van broke down she tried to find alternative accessible transport to her hospital appointments.  Her story kicked off an investigation into disabled transport in Blackpool.  Listen in here from 17 minutes in:

Sandra’s neighbours were so sick of all the rubbish blowing about on Warley Road in Blackpool, they called a ‘chippy tea’ to discuss it.  They invited the rubbish collection agency in  Blackpool and even the local police.  The outcome was they got new ‘lidded’ bins to stop the problem from happening.

John Walker met Evan Davies from BBC Radio 4

John Walker got involved in a project we ran about getting back to work.  His views so interested Radio 4’s PM programme, presenter Evan Davies came to town to interview John, who starred on the show.  Listen to our podcast about getting back to work:
